Labour Identification Number (LIN) is a unique identification number assigned by the Ministry of Labour and Employment to registered employers under the Shram Suvidha Portal. The Shram Suvidha Portal is an initiative of the Indian government to simplify and streamline the process of labour law compliance and enforcement.
The purpose of the LIN is to create a database of all registered employers and their workforce and to ensure effective monitoring of labour law compliance. The LIN is a 16-digit alphanumeric number that is used to identify an employer and their workforce across all states and union territories in India.
To obtain a LIN, employers must first register on the Shram Suvidha Portal and provide details such as their name, address, contact details, and other relevant information. Once the registration is complete, the employer will be assigned a unique LIN which will be used for all future communication and compliance-related activities.
Employers with a LIN can avail various services offered by the Shram Suvidha Portal, such as filing of self-certified and consolidated annual returns under various labour laws, obtaining factory and establishment registrations and licenses, and making online applications for various benefits and schemes.
